Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.Something worse than the Arum has come to town…The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard. But then everything changes…I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

First off, let me just say that that cover is freaking gorgeous, like "inducing heart-palpitations" beautiful. Jeez. I just wanna stare at it. A lot (seriously, I pulled my copy out of my purse today and showed it to my friend and was like "Isn't this the prettiest cover ever?" of course, she agreed.) I just.. its's so... pretty. I love it. Almost as much as I loved the story inside it. I have to tell you guys, though, the story was even more heart-palpitation-inducing than the cover. It's so sweet and agonizing and twisty and full of action and it just killed me! I swear it was almost better than Obsidian (I think they're pretty equal). I mean, all this crazy stuff happens with the DOD and the whole time my poor little heart is just like "Oh, God, WHY?!" and then I'm like "Aw Daemon, you're so amazing. Ditch Katy and be with me." (sorry, Katy. He's just too fantastic), and with a plethora of emotions in between. It was just so amazing, I'm having a hard time making sense (even more so than usual).

So, let's see if I can get my plot-love into words, shall we? Obviously, Katy is having a hard time succumbing to her feelings for Daemon (she has them, definitely, how could she not?). She's freakishly stubborn, but he did hurt her a lot when they first met, and she doesn't want to forget that. Enter Blake: Cute, new guy, extraordinaire. He's charming, he likes Katy, AND HE BLOGS. I mean, how much cooler can he get? Unfortunately for the poor guy, Daemon hates his guts for putting the moves on Katy. I mean, Daemon's kind of already staked his claim, the new guy needs to get that in his thick, blond head. Dee and Adam are getting way closer (like waaaaay closer.) and are actually acting like a real couple (woah). In between all of that, the DOD are in town, and are investigating the fight Katy & co. had with the Arum in the field back in the last book. With all of that, everything's fairly high-tension and very exciting. I love that I really never saw a lot of things coming. Katy has a couple revelations that totally left me reeling. I loved it!! It's just sooo good.

And I seriously think I even like the characters (well one in particular) better now, which is fairly crazy because I loved them all in Obsidian. Katy kind of busts out of her shell and starts to take risks and be proactive- even if her brand of proactiveness is kinda stupid and dangerous. I personally think (and I know Daemon would so not agree) that it was good for her. She saw that she wasn't helpless and used that to her advantage. She's always been able to hold her own against Daemon, but now she's winning arguments (and losing some, but hey, whatever). I just love her so much. Katy is an amazing heroine! And then there's Daemon, the sexy, brooding alien. Ironically, he acted so much more human in Onyx. He admitted to having emotions (feelings are way too girly a word to use when describing Daemon Black), and it was kind of hot. I mean, in a lot of guys, sensitivity is a deal breaker (because they're obnoxious and send whiny make-up texts after you tell them to leave you alone.... not that I'd know anything about that), but, in Daemon? It totally works. Seriously. I mean, it's like in City of Glass when Jace breaks down and tells Clary she's the love of his life- we learn that he isn't made of stone and love him all the more for it. That's really who Daemon reminds me of a lot in Onyx, just because he has the sexy, protective thing going for him added to the attitude and sarcasm. Basically, those two (I wrote that much about two characters? Jeez.) are the stars of Onyx, and we don't see a whole lot of anyone else (aside from Blake, but I never liked him).

Obviously giving this one 5 stars, I mean, come on people. It was AMAZING. Seriously amazing. I highly suggest reading it. If you haven't read Obsidian yet- do- and then read Onyx and come back and tell me what you thought :D
